We speak to Group Chief Executive, Brian Brodie:

What is the best thing about being in the secured loan business?

It is such a varied industry with no two days ever being the same at Freedom Finance. I enjoy traveling around the country and meeting new and interesting people who inspire us to keep providing  the best possible service, options and experiences for our customers. It is extremely satisfying to be part of a process that helps borrowers secure a loan for their individual financial needs and knowing it will have a positive impact on their life.

What keeps you focussed?

I think it is always important to be inquisitive. 2016 has been an exciting year for the lending industry as it moves to make a safer and more accessible market for borrowers.  It is important firms do not get lost in the ever changing lending and regulatory landscape, so we believe it is vital to keep talking and listening to our customers, intermediaries and partners to keep us ahead of the game.

What qualities do you look for in your employees or colleagues?

What attracted me to Freedom Finance was the loyalty, dedication and excitement from the whole team. The biggest asset of any company is the people and we have a hugely diverse set of people and skills within the business.

Are you an optimist or a pessimist?

Most definitely an optimist, I always think the glass is half full.

What did you want to be as a child?

It was an ambition of mine to become an architect. It is still a dream of mine to build my own house one day.

What will be the greatest challenge facing the secured loan industry in the coming months?

We expect digital disruption to be a huge focus for the industry for some time. Customers are becoming increasingly comfortable with technology to deal with their finances and expect fast and agile solutions from the whole financial services industry, whether it be a challenger bank or traditional high street lender.  We have seen a rise in the number of ‘online only customer journeys’ so it is vital we continue to innovate the way we communicate and offer solutions to borrowers.

Who or what makes you laugh?

Lee Mack is one of my favourites.

Do you dread Monday mornings?

I am lucky that I truly enjoy my job and look forward to going to work everyday. The start of a new week brings lots of opportunity, so I don’t dread it.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

My knees – too much football has taken its toll!

With whom would you most like to have dinner?

Will Durant would bring a lot to the table.
