We speak to Managing Director, James Rainbird:

What is the best thing about being in the secured loan business?

Today it’s exciting times in the secured loan arena. There are plenty of new products being launched to assist consumers and the intermediary market. We couldn’t have said that this time last year.

What keeps you focused?

I’ve always had the drive and determination to do well, I have a young family to support which has given me that extra incentive and enthusiasm.

What qualities do you look for in your employees or colleagues?

I mainly look for loyalty, trust and integrity. Those are three qualities that guarantee a hard working and honest workforce. At Pink Pig Loans, we have a great team which is dedicated to their work and the company. I’m really glad you asked me that one.

Are you an optimist or a pessimist?

For me being an optimist is easy. Life is full of opportunities and the glass is always half full. When plans fail, I do my best to turn them into a positive. I always stay proactive to try and turn missed opportunity into a new one. After all, when one door closes another opens.

What did you want to be as a child?

When I was a kid I always wanted to be a superhero and fly! Though I can’t fly, my young boys think I’m a superhero. That’s enough for me. Although being able to fly would be great.

What will be the greatest challenge facing the secured loan industry in the coming months?

I was hoping that the “challenges” were behind for a little while at least! I can only see a positive road ahead in the secured loan industry over the coming months, however this has been said before. Changes from the FSA to FCA next year will be interesting for all parties involved in the secured loans arena.

We, who or what makes you laugh?

I love spending time with my family. They bring the most joy and laughter into my life. Other than that, seeing random people tripping up in the street always makes me chuckle, as I’m sure it does others too.

Do you dread Monday mornings?

I’m not that keen on Sunday evenings but I LOVE Monday mornings! On a serious note, I tend to find Mondays fairly pleasant. I have a few tactics I use over the weekend to help beat those Monday blues – they work well.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

Being able to say no to that 2nd beer at the bar would be a great! I’m not 20 anymore and having to deal with those pesky hangovers is getting harder by the month.

With whom would you most like to have dinner?

If I’d been asked this question 20 years ago I would have said Eddie Murphy. Who wouldn’t, he’s a right laugh! If I was going out for a romantic dinner it would have to be with Megan Fox – she owns a pink pig!
