We speak to Joint Managing Director, Tim Wheeldon:
What is the best thing about being in the secured loan business?
The industry has a real community feel to it. Everybody knows each other.
What keeps you focused?
I’m quite competitive by nature, so I’m driven to be the best I can be in everything I do, whether that’s in or outside of work.
What qualities do you look for in your employees or colleagues?
They need to have drive, be hardworking and committed to providing the best service. But to be honest I’m glad if they turn up!
Are you an optimist or a pessimist?
That depends on what day of the week you ask, but I’d say I’m mostly optimistic.
What did you want to be as a child?
I wanted to work in money and really wanted to be a racing driver, but at one point I almost ended up as an optician. Thankfully that didn’t happen, so now I get to work in money and race cars in my spare time.
What will be the greatest challenge facing the secured loan industry in the coming months?
The industry itself has got to move and expand, if not it will stagnate and become irrelevant. There are still only a handful of lenders at the moment, so we need the industry to grow to the point where it becomes mainstream.
Who or what makes you laugh?
Stephen Fry and the number of people who watch reality TV.
Do you dread Monday mornings?
No. The only thing I dread is silly questions.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
With whom would you most like to have dinner?
God and Richard Dawkins. Work that one out!
