The Five Minute Interview with Ben Gillespie, Director, Chaseblue Loans

Ben GillespieChaseblue Loans is a leading UK broker packager of secured, bridging, commercial and asset finance. Chaseblue also partners two major Banks in re-brokering of commercial and asset finance cases.

We speak to broker director Ben Gillespie:

What is the best thing about being in the secured loan business?

I like it that every day is different, new challenges for new clients and its not always easy, but I really do love this industry (sad, I know).

What keeps you focussed?

The will to succeed, I want Chaseblue to enhance its introducer base and its reputation for transparancy and honesty.

What qualities do you look for in your employees or colleagues?

Well I don’t want your typical sales staff, we are not purely focused on sales so there needs to be some imagination and ability to think outside the box.

Are you an optimist or a pessimist?

Definitely a pessimist, I always look for the bad in deals, sometimes its a negative about but overall it serves me well.

What did you want to be as a child?

I always wanted to be in the SAS but my brother used to wind me up and say I couldn’t get in due to having asthma as a child. Would still love to be in the Marines or SAS, what a job.

What will be the greatest challenge facing the secured loan industry in the coming months?

The Euro problems are still hampering us I feel, then it will be regulation in the coming years.

Who or what makes you laugh?

Funnily enough, comedians! I like Lee Evans, Michael McIntyre and some lesser know comedians.

Do you dread Monday mornings?

No, I relish getting started and completing deals that make such a difference to our clients (sad again I know).

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

Maybe I need more patience and more understanding that not everyone has my OCD with regards files and notes being left in said files. Not everyone is at 300 miles per hour like me also, sometimes I need to relax more and worry less.

With whom would you most like to have dinner?

Hmmm, never really thought about this, would say it would have to be Gordon Ramsey. Purely because I know the food would be good, not because I am a fan.
